Hurray For Hollywood! Part 2: My Reaction to This New Groups Nominations for TV Comedy, Spoiler, It's mostly funny

 

On to comedy.

 

BEST BROADCAST NETWORK COMEDY

Black-ish and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist more than deserve to be here. Glad to see Mr. Mayor and Superstore. Kind of think we nominated the wrong Young person – would much rather have seen a Sheldon than a Young Rock. For that matter, where’s Mom?

 

BEST CABLE SERIES, COMEDY

Overjoyed to see Breeders and Shameless here. Fine with Chad.  Would rather have seen grown-ish than Everything Is Going to be Okay, but a nomination for Freeform is still good. Little questionable about Resident Alien, but okay.

 

BEST ACTOR IN A BROADCAST OR CABLE SERIES COMEDY

Good to see Ted Danson and Anthony Anderson. Over the moon that Martin Freeman is here. The world rejoices at Alan Tudyk getting nominated. Isn’t the choice of Joseph Lee Anderson a little arbitrary for Young Rock? Would much rather have seen William H. Macy.

 

BEST ACTRESS IN A BROADCAST NETWORK OR CABLE SERIES COMEDY

Sing out for Jane Levy and her extraordinary nomination. Glad to see Tracee Ellis Ross here; ecstatic to see Daisy Haggard here.

I’m find with A Black Lady Sketch Show getting some nominations. But really Stacey Leilua. Where the hell is Allison Janney? Or  Regina Hall? This is iffy.

 

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A BROADCAST OR CABLE COMEDY SERIES

Way happier here. No, you can never have enough nominees from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and I’m grateful to see both of Zoey’s love interests, Skylar Astin and John Clarence Stewart nominated with Alex Newell, who I’d say has a big Mo. Nico Santos has had some buzz from critics before so I’m glad to see him nominated in the final season of Superstore. Dwayne Johnson apparently has no ego if he wants to be nominated for Supporting Actor for essentially playing himself.

I’m torn about Corey Reynolds’ nomination. He’s a fine actor whose deserved nominations in the past. But couldn’t they have found room for Bobby Monyhan for Mr. Mayor or William Fichtner for Mom?

 

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A BROADCAST OR CABLE COMEDY SERIES

What do you know? No one from SNL. Already I like this.

My lovable longshots Mary Steenburgen and Holly Hunter are front and center. And someone has finally had the good sense to nominate Vella Lovell, though admittedly her work in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was superior to Mr. Mayor. Loved Lauren Ash in Superstore.

Am iffy about Alice Wetterlund for Resident Alien and Ana Tuisila for Young Rock. Would rather have seen Zoe Perry or Annie Potts from Young Sheldon here.

 

BEST STREAMING SERIES COMEDY

Really can’t argue with Ted Lasso, The Flight Attendant or Hacks by this point. Girls5Eva seems a likely nominee and its hard to argue with Cobra Kai or Mythic Quest given the collective buzz. But really? No Kominsky Method? Kind of stunned.

 

BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES, STREAMING

I think it’s safe to say no one would dare argue with the choices of Jason Sudeikis or Michael Douglas. I’m glad to see Ed Helms nominated for something and ditto Rob McElhenney? I’m just a little stunned Tom Ellis is for Lucifer…do we really think that’s a comedy?

 

BEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES, STREAMING

Hard to argue with Jean Smart or Kaley Cuoco as they are the frontrunners. Hailee Steinfeld has gotten a lot of buzz for Dickinson. I’ll have to see Made for Love or Girls5Eva to see if Cristin Milioti and Renee Elise Goldsberry rate, but they’re each superb actresses and they’ve earned it.

 

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES, STREAMING

Is four nominations for Ted Lasso too many in this category? The only reason I didn’t add Nick Mohammed and Jeremy Swift’s names along with those of Brendan Hunt and Brett Goldstein was because I didn’t want to frontload it, not because they weren’t worthy. Ray Romano has an outside chance of getting a nomination for Made for Love.

Danny Pudi and Patton Oswalt I find questionable. Couldn’t we find room for Michael Huisman for The Flight Attendant or Paul Reiser for The Kominsky Method

 

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES, STREAMING

No one would dare argue with Hannah Waddingham or Juno Temple for Ted Lasso. Rosie Perez earned it for The Flight Attendant. And I’m thrilled to see Kathleen Turner for The Kominsky Method. Having watched some more episodes, I now thing Hannah Einbinder does deserve to get nominated for Hacks and Kaitlin Olson made a similar impression?

Paula Pell from Girls5Eva over say Zosia Mamet for The Flight Attendant? Clearly I have to watch this series.

 

Wow. That took a lot out of me. I’ll wait until tomorrow before I deal with Drama. I’ll just say up front. Pretty good.
